On-Train General Information

The carriages that we use are provided by Riviera Trains and were built in the 1960's & 70's by British Rail for their then flagship Intercity services, but are now exclusively prepared for special charter train excursions such as those featured within this web-site and in our printed brochure.
SEATING For the majority of excursions there is a choice of seating ~ please refer to the individual tour details to check which types are available. Seats in all types of accommodation are individually reserved, are at a table and are lined up with the wide windows to give any single passenger an excellent view of the ever-changing scenery.
STANDARD CLASS seats are normally arranged with two side by side, facing another two across a table.
FIRST CLASS offers seating as in Standard, but with enhanced leg room and comfort, table lamps and a limited number of Table for Two seats (see below).
FIRST CLASS PLUS is as for First Class, but inclusive of a selection of complimentary teas, coffees, soft drinks, biscuits and pastries served at your seat.
PREMIER DINING is a Pullman style at-seat silver service of meals served in First Class carriages and comprising of The Great British Breakfast, Elevenses or Light Luncheon and a set Four Course Evening Dinner. We are pleased to cater for vegetarians, vegan and special diets, but please advise us at the time of booking.
TABLES FOR TWO are available in First Class, First Class Plus and Premier Dining (not Standard Class). A guarantee of places at these 'Table for Two' seats attracts a premium of £15 per person.
TRAVELLERS WITH DISABILITIES are most welcome. However, due to the design and layout of the carriages, access for fully wheelchair bound passengers is currently not possible.
ON BOARD FEATURES: On joining the train, each passenger is presented with a souvenir brochure, which usually includes a route guide, map and comprehensive timing schedule. There is also an interesting souvenir sales stand on board each train and a Fun Train Raffle will be organised.

An experienced on board Train Manager will accompany each excursion and Pathfinder representatives are on hand at all times to ensure that your day out with us is one to remember.

BUFFET: A fully licensed buffet service will be open for most of the journey, selling hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, pastries, confectionery, crisps and other light refreshments, including a selection of draught real ales from independent micro-breweries from around the Country.
TRAIN HEATING: Where the featured diesel, electric or steam locomotive is unable to supply train heating or power for air-conditioning, a generator coach will be included in the train formation to do so.
FARES: ... are shown individually for each excursion. Junior fares (age 5-15 inclusive) are available and children under 5 may normally travel free of charge in Standard Class, First Class and First Class Plus, but cannot be guaranteed a seat unless the junior fare is paid. Premier Dining is not considered suitable for under 10's. Family fares, where available, are valid for 2 adults and 2 juniors sat together.
CREDIT / DEBIT CARD PAYMENTS: Due to the continuing increases in processing credit cards, a surcharge of 1.5% will be levied on all bookings made this way. However, note that there is no additional charge made for payments by debit card.
CHEQUE PAYMENTS: Telephone bookings, to be paid by cheque, will be held open for seven days from the date of your call. Please make cheques payable to 'Pathfinder Tours'.
GROUP DISCOUNTS ... starting at 5%, are available for parties of 10 or more booked, and paid for, in a single transaction. For clubs, societies and travel agents we are willing to agree a fixed fare in advance, subject to a guaranteed minimum number of seats. Please enquire with the Pathfinder office for full details.
CONFIRMATION OF YOUR BOOKING: Bookings made by telephone will be verbally acknowledged at the time of taking. If you require a written confirmation of your postal booking please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.
Bookings made by secured email using this site are acknowledged via email at the time of booking and subsequently confirmed or queried via a second email sent directly from the Pathfinder office up to two working days later.
BOARDING PASSES will be posted to you during the week leading up to the excursions, along with confirmation of the final timings, seat reservations and other details relating to your day out. For late bookings received in the Pathfinder office (up to midday on the Wednesday preceding the excursion concerned), your boarding passes, which show your reserved seat numbers, will still be normally posted to you by First Class mail. Subject to availability of the required seating, we can accept bookings after that time, but will then usually confirm your seat reservation and timing details by 'phone or email, and your boarding passes will be handed to you at your allocated seat on the excursion itself.
