Pathfinders origins and experience
of organising special rail excursions go way back to 1973 when the then
Managing Director, Peter Watts, and some colleagues ran a 'Merrymaker' style
excursion from Severnside stations to the Cambrian Coast line.
Since that day the business has grown steadily to meet the ever strong
demand from both the enthusiast market and the leisure rail traveller in
visiting all corners of the British Isles.
The company now runs some 40 - 50
tours and excursions by rail every year, with several distinct styles
of itinerary.
In January 2006, a London based company, which
includes Riviera Trains in their portfolio, acquired the business assets of F. & W. Railtours
Limited, which was then trading under the name of 'Pathfinder Tours'.
A new company has been formed
called 'Pathfinder Tours (2006) Limited' and this company continues to offer
the same distinct style of itinerary as before and with the same depth
of knowledge through the experience of Peter Watts (General
Manager), who has remained with the newly formed company, and a
dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
