Friday 30th March to Monday 2nd April, 2018

Enjoy a memorable weekend away amongst the spectacular Scottish scenery, travelling in classic First Class carriages, with good food and comfortable overnight hotels.

You will be warmly welcomed aboard our first class private train where, after a welcoming glass of bubbly, you will enjoy an excellent traditional English Cooked Breakfast. Later joining passengers (Derby, Chesterfield and York) will be served something a little lighter.

After a leg stretch at York, England’s North East and Northumbria is journeyed through. Evening Dinner is later served in Scotland as we traverse the undulating Highland mainline through the beautiful central Highlands en-route to Inverness. After arrival and transfer, check in to your comfortable hotel for the three night stay.

(2 day option)

After many requests we offer this guided two day coach tour. Leaving Inverness early Saturday morning travel to Ullapool and join the Stornaway ferry. In the afternoon enjoy a circular tour of Lewis to see some of its important landmarks before Evening Dinner in your overnight hotel.

After Sunday breakfast head south to hilly Harris to take in the natural landscapes before joining the ferry to Uig on Skye and on back to Inverness. (stops included).

It should be noted that a fair amount of coach and ferry travel is essential to reach this far flung outpost of the British Isles. But then thats all part of the fun!

There is a £135 supplement per person for this option.

Start the day with a breakfast at your hotel before setting off around 9.30am for your day of exploration. Please choose from the four diverse options below.

Early evening will see everyone back on the train after departure from Inverurie, hopefully with a healthy appetite to enjoy the Evening Dinner as we journey back to Inverness through the rolling hills for a well earned nights sleep, arriving around 9.30pm.

Option A - A Fishy Day!
Departing Eastbound from Inverness this guided tour by road coach journeys around the ‘shoulder’ of Scotland via the fishing towns of MacDuff, Fraserburgh and Peterhead, home of the big North Sea fleets. Stops will be made to give you an insight into this tough industry, including a lunchtime visit to the Scottish Lighthouses museum, before arrival into Inverurie late afternoon for the train journey back to Inverness.

Option B - The Grampian Railways
Leave Inverness for the road coach journey, with local guide, across the Grampian Hills, visiting and riding the Strathspey, Alford Valley and Royal Deeside Railways, plus time at the Grampian Transport Museum for light lunch, before arrival in Inverurie ready for the evening rail journey back to Inverness aboard our special train.

Option C - Balmoral and Royal Deeside
This guided coach tour, with several stops, travels over the heights of the Grampian Hills for a visit to the Queen’s estate of Balmoral, including refreshments. Then continue down Royal Deeside to arrive into Inverurie late afternoon to join our waiting special train back to Inverness.

Option D - Inverness and Whisky
A relaxing start to the day with the morning in Inverness to explore the ‘capital of the Highlands’ as you wish at your own pace. Then, around one o’clock, depart aboard our special train for the eastbound journey through the rolling hills landscape to Keith, with a light lunch served. On arrival transfer by coach to one of the re-nowned local Whisky distilleries for a visit before continuing to Inverurie and our special train back to Inverness.

A leisurely day with departure from Inverness around 10am aboard our special train. The destination - Kyle of Lochalsh - is at the end of the twisting 80 mile scenic line across the mountains to the west coast looking over to the Isle of Skye. After a light lunch served en-route, you will have a choice from the afternoon options below.

The evening, with dinner served, will see the train re-trace the outward scenic route, getting back into Inverness for around 9pm.

Option F - Over the Sea to Skye
Road coaches take you over a bridge these days so, with a local guide, enjoy the scenic run across the Isle of Skye to its chief town of Portree for a mid-afternoon visit, then return to Kyle of Lochalsh.

Option G - Eilean Donan Castle

Near to Kyle lies one of the most iconic symbols of Scotlands colourful history. After a short coach transfer enjoy a guided tour of this loch side fortress.

Option H - Plockton, Loch Carron and Attadale Gardens
A relaxing afternoon visit to this lochside village, not far from Kyle of Lochalsh, that has featured in several films and enjoys wonderful mountain views. A loch cruise, to hopefully see the seals, and a visit to the Highland Gardens, is included.

The morning sees us on our way south, enjoying a traditional cooked Breakfast as the train climbs to Slochd then Druimuachdar Summit - at 1484ft the highest point on the National Rail Network. There is still much to see as we pass through Pitlochry and Dunkeld to Perth, then on past Stirling and through the central belt around Edinburgh. A four-course Luncheon is served as we head back into northern England, then the Midlands, setting down as we travel south from York.

If you are travelling well to the south a simple supper will be served later.

Wherever you alight we truly hope you will be able to look back at a weekend of delightful memories to treasure.
