The Towy Tornado - NEW
Saturday 05th August, 2017
ENJOY SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES OF MAINLINE STEAM HAULAGE, BEHIND THE POPULAR ‘TORNADO’ AS WE HEAD TO WEST WALES AND YOUR CHOICE OF AFTERNOON OPTIONS.
We start off diesel hauled from the pick-up stations to Bristol Temple Meads, where popular Pacific no. 60163 ‘Tornado’ awaits. Then, with this popular steam engine in command, we head into South Wales, travelling through the Severn Tunnel and Newport/Cardiff followed by the undulating Glamorgan countryside. Continuing west, we climb Stormy Down Bank and travel through the sprawling Swansea hinterland before Llanelli, finally culminating in a run along the Towy Estuary to the historic market town of Carmarthen.
There will be an afternoon break of three to four hours here, perhaps to explore on your own, or to participate in one of the options near to Carmarthen detailed below:
The excursion will return late afternoon with ‘Tornado‘ again in charge, retracing our outward journey (with a different route around Swansea) back to Bristol, where a diesel locomotive will take over back to our starting stations to complete a memorable day featuring Britain’s newest mainline steam locomotive.
