Event Details

This excursion to the Lake District offers a choice of off-train options – a perenial favourite (Lake Windermere Steam & Sail), a brand new cruise for us (on Coniston Water), or a ride on the Ravenglass  & Eskdale Railway. Alternatively, you can explore in and around Ravenglass.

Our train is formed of classic mark I carriages, and our rail route from Stafford is via Crewe, Preston and Carnforth, before taking the scenic Cumbrian Coast line that skirts the Lake District’s south and western coasts. Choose from:

Option A – LAKE WINDERMERE STEAM & SAIL (Supplementary fare – Adult £26/Junior £19): From Grange-over-Sands, by coach with a local guide, enjoy a circular journey, including a ride on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, a cruise on Lake Windermere and a break in Bowness.

Option B – CONISTON WATER CRUISE (Supplementary fare – Adult £26/Junior £19): a road coach will take you from Grange to Coniston for a break and Head of Lake sail aboard the National Trust steam yacht ‘Gondola’.

Option C – RAVENGLASS & ESKDALE RAILWAY (Supplementary fare – Adult £11/Junior £6): Partake of the return journey along this famous narrow gauge line that runs from the coast inland for seven miles to Dalegarth, with a backdrop of the Cumbrian Fells!

Option D – RAVENGLASS (1215/1520): Explore this pretty village where three rivers combine – watch trains, enjoy a drink, perhaps walk to Muncaster Castle ( approx. 25 minutes each way)
