To Tenby and Pembroke Dock along the Pembroke Coast behind no. 35028 ‘Clan Line’, breaking new ground for this popular ‘Southern’ Railway steam locomotive.
We take a westerly and undulating route past Cardiff, Bridgend and Port Talbot, before heading around the northern edge of Swansea to Llanelli, with industrial, rural and coastal views along the way. At Carmarthen we avoid the station and run direct to Whitland to take the graded single line branch to Tenby (1230/1550). You can enjoy a three hour afternoon break in this traditional seaside resort.
Our train will continue beyond Tenby to‘Pembroke Dock, the end of the branch line, where ‘Clan Line’ and the coaches will be serviced, offering an alternative break of about two hours here.
Later in the day we will re-trace our outward route , but this time going into Carmarthen to reverse and detach the diesel loco that will have brought us back from Tenby. From here ‘Clan Line’ will head us all the way back to Bristol, with a different route through Swansea, to conclude what we hope will be a lovely summer’s day outing.
