Event Details

Today our special train is diesel hauled north of Carnforth. Here we change to steam traction – expected to be LNER A1 design Pacific No. 60163 ‘Tornado’ (subject to the loco passing all the requisite tests and no untoward events!)

Underway again we are faced with the arduous inclines of the Cumbrian Fells, to Shap Summit, before we reach Carlisle, where a link takes us directly onto the start of the Settle & Carlisle Line.  We now run to Appleby; here a welcome two hour break will be enjoyed. Then we run into the hills, through Kirkby Stephen, along the flanks of the Wild Boar Fell to Ais Gill summit. A highlight is crossing the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct, from where we head down past Penyghent to Settle Junction. Leaving the Settle & Carlisle Line we approach Hellifield, where there is a loco change before we head homewards diesel hauled across the mighty Whalley Viaduct.

* Please note that Premier Dining is not available from Crewe.

Table for Two seats are available at a supplement of £35 per person in First Class, First Class Plus and Premier Dining.

The train will be diesel hauled Didcot to Carnforth and Hellifield to Didcot, subject to the loco passing all the necessary tests.
