No 35028 'Clan Line' and Stratford-upon-Avon

Event Details

Not for many a year have we enjoyed a steam hauled excursion to Stratford-upon-Avon, so let’s go and have a fabulous day out!

Featuring the Southern Railway designed  no. 35028 ‘Clan Line, which was built at Eastleigh in 1938 and is now lovingly cared for by the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society.  We start off diesel hauled Eastleigh to Bristol, where ‘Clan Line’ will take over.

The outward routing is via Swindon, Oxford and Leamington Spa, arriving at Stratford-upon-Avon around 1230, giving you about three hours to explore this famous old Warwickshire town, set on the River Avon and birth place of William Shakespeare – there are lots of attractions to visit, plus boat trips, eateries and shops to enjoy.

The return journey continues our circular itinerary as we travel over mainly ex-GWR metals via Henley-in-Arden, the heart of Birmingham, the Worcester and through Gloucestershire before arrival back at Temple Meads, where the diesel will take over to complete our homeward journey.
