SATURDAY 12 NOVEMBER 2022
CLASS FORTY PRESERVATION SOCIETY (CFPS) 40145 MAKES A CIRCULAR JOURNEY FROM CREWE TO NEWCASTLE, OUTWARD VIA YORK AND THE DURHAM COAST,
BACK VIA THE TYNE VALLEY AND SHAP, COVERING LINES THAT WERE THE PRESERVE OF THE CLASS IN THE EARLY DIESEL DAYS.
It is with great pleasure that we offer this very special railtour excursion, featuring over four hundred main line miles behind a Class 40! West Coast Railway Company will provide one of their own locomotives between Burton-on-Trent to Crewe, with a selection of joining points that offer access from many directions.
At Crewe we change locomotives, with the Whistler taking over for most of the day. From our last joining point at Warrington Bank Quay, we head across Chat Moss to Manchester and up Miles Platting bank, then across the Pennines to reach Wakefield and on to York. North again to Northallerton, where we take the line to Eaglescliffe, and via Stockton, Hartlepool and Sunderland to Newcastle (1455-1700) for a break whilst the carriages are serviced.
Due to a derailment outside of Carlisle, the return journey will now run from Newcastle via Durham, York and the Calder Valley, regaining its previously booked route just north of the first set down at Warrington Bank Quay. The Class 40 will now continue from Crewe via Birmingham New Street to the end of the itinerary at Burton-on-Trent. The outwards journey remains unaffected.
