We are very excited as this is a first for us – an excursion to Margate, so let’s go and have a fabulous day out at the seaside!

No 35028 ‘Clan Line’ by Robert Sherwood

Featuring steam locomotive No. 35028 ‘Clan Line’ from the London area to Margate and return, and with a diesel locomotive leading to and from London.

The outward part of our circular routing behind ‘Clan Line’ is via the Medway Towns and Faversham to Margate, Kent’s most famous seaside town, arriving at 1235, giving just short of three hours to explore this traditional seaside town which has once again become ‘cool’. Have a paddle on the sandy beaches and enjoy the many traditional attractions, or spend time visiting the acclaimed Turner Contemporary international art gallery which opened 10 years ago. You could visit Dreamland – an iconic amusement park delivering vintage rides including the UK’s oldest wooden roller coaster, plus all the fun of the fair. 2020 marked the 100th anniversary since Dreamland opened with the Scenic Railway. There is also a shell grotto, plus the Hornby Hobbies Visitor Centre and the reopened Margate Caves.

Our return journey takes us through Sandwich, Dover, Folkestone, Tonbridge and the suburbs of London before  ‘Clan Line’ leaves us in west London and a diesel will take us back home, following the same route as earlier in the day.

Motive power is expected to be steam locomotive No. 35028 ‘Clan Line’ (subject to last minute availability) from London to Margate and back, with a DB diesel hauling our Mark I carriages west of London.
